UPMC Italy is issuing a call for applications for the following position: 1 Senior Manager Public Relations (Ref. SMPR/19)

UPMC Italy’s clinical and scientific activity mainly focuses on transplantation and oncology, and in other specialties: from emergency medicine to neurosurgery, from preventive medicine to cardiac surgery. Working closely with the UPMC Vice President of Public Relations for International, the Senior Manager PR develops public relations strategies for media and internal audiences in support of UPMC’s health care operations and research in Italy.
This position also manages various crises and controversies in assigned areas and works to minimize negative impact on UPMC. Working with communications colleagues in Italy and the U.S., the Senior Manager leads the identification, development and placement of regional, national and international media stories in Italy to support UPMC’s global organizational strategies.
The senior manager is also responsible for development and execution of internal communications strategies and material that support UPMC’s mission, adhere to brand guidelines and ensure a consistent UPMC experience.

The ideal candidate possesses the following:

• Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field.
• At least 8 years of documented experience in communication, or 5 years’ experience and a Master’s degree.
• Previous experience in a complex health care and/or academic medical center environment preferred.
• Experience providing senior leadership with strategic communications counsel.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills in both Italian and English.
• Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment.
• Ability to translate scientific/medical information to a lay person’s understanding.
• Sound news judgment and track record of identifying and placing stories of interest to regional, national and international media.
• Ability to counsel internal clients on communication strategies.

Multitasking, proactivity, reliability, stress management, problem solving, teamwork and strong interpersonal skills are also instrumental to the role.

The contract offered will be commensurate with the experience and skills of the selected candidate.

The workplace is Rome but travel throughout Italy will be required. Overseas travel may be required.
