UPMC Italy is issuing a call for applications for the following no-term position: 1 Oncologist (Ref. Onco/21) – EXTENSION

UPMC Italy offers professional opportunities in an international and multicultural setting at IRCCS ISMETT (Istituto Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione) one of the most technologically advanced and state-of-the-art medical centers in Italy, managed by UPMC in partnership with ARNAS Civico Hospital in Palermo and the Ri.MED Foundation.

The oncologist works in coordination with other physicians in the cardiothoracic, abdominal and diagnostic and therapeutic services (Pathology, Radiodiagnostics, and Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, Nuclear Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Clinical Psychology), and has the clinical responsibility of all cancer patients referred to ISMETT, so as to define the best diagnostic and therapeutic care programs.
The oncologist promotes and coordinates multidisciplinary tumor boards attended by physicians from clinical, surgical, and diagnostic areas. He/she promotes interaction and integration with colleagues in the community to ensure completion of therapeutic programs (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.), facilitate the follow-up of ISMETT patients, attract cancer patients to ISMETT (e.g., liver, pancreatic, biliary tract, lung, mediastinum, esophagus, and other rare tumors).
The oncologist manages the communication between physicians and cancer patients, also suggesting palliative medicine, if needed. He/she interacts with colleagues from other UPMC centers (UPMC Italy, UPMC International, UPMC Pittsburgh) to ensure uniformity in therapeutic and diagnostic programs, timely implementation of innovative therapies, and the best patient care.
He/she helps to promote the development of clinical and translational research projects, develop innovative therapies, publish research results in peer-reviewed international journals, attract research funds, and create networks for clinical and research activities.


  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery recognized in Italy, or equivalent title.
  • Postgraduate diploma in Oncology recognized in Italy, or equivalent title.
  • Enrollment in the professional board.
  • Postgraduate seniority in the position of at least 5 years.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Documented professional experience in the position in other medical oncology centers, in Italy or abroad.
  • Scientific production rated with the H-index.
  • Excellent knowledge of English.
  • Active participation in national and international multicenter studies on new molecular therapies.

Other requisites:
Good knowledge of the main computer applications, availability to travel abroad, strong motivation, flexibility, stress management, problem-solving, interpersonal relationship, and teamwork skills.

The type of contract offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and skills of the selected candidate.

The workplace is Palermo.
